Ozone Edge Race Kite

The Edge has long sat at the front of Ozone's inflatable performance range, and the Edge Race is the version selected as the class kite for the IKA Youth Foil Class. It keeps the Edge's speed and power, but in a package Ozone describes as a user-friendly powerhouse — performance that a young racer can actually access.

On the course it drives fast through turns, and the bar stays smooth as the kite moves through its angle-of-attack range. That smoothness is what helps in gusts and when rounding marks, where an abrupt kite costs places.

A small class quiver. Only three sizes — 6m, 9m and 13m — cover the class wind range, and line length does the fine-tuning. The registered line length is 13m, and 4m and 7m extensions give you 13m, 17m, 20m or 24m, so one kite can be matched to the sailor's weight, the wind and the course.

The build is practical. The Fast Flow one-pump system inflates all struts from a single point, with high airflow between struts and leading edge and clips to seal the hoses if one is damaged. Technora bridles cut drag, the canopy uses a rip-stop with an ultra-flex coating for smoother feedback in gusts, and the leading edge and struts are tough rip-stop Dacron with double-layer reinforcements at the closing seam. Like all Ozone inflatables, it flies without pulleys.

Who it is not for. This is a class race kite. If you don't race in the IKA youth fleet, the regular Edge or a freeride model will suit you better and give you more sizes. If you race in the open fleet, you will be on a foil race kite such as the R1 V5.
