Description
The Mach1 is Ozone's answer to a simple question: what if a race kite's power and lift were tuned for people who don't race? Ozone took the most powerful elements of its race designs — the R1 V4 and the Chrono — and re-tuned them for a wider range of riders. The result is a double-surface foil kite aimed at big air on a twin-tip and fast, fluid riding on a hydrofoil, especially in light wind.
The airframe carries a lot of the race technology. A high cell count keeps the ribs close together and the surface smooth. Transverse sail shaping cleans up the leading edge, flexible plastic battens hold the leading-edge profile when the angle of attack changes, and internal span-wise straps with diagonal ribs spread the bridle load. The canopy is double rip-stop nylon with a water-shedding coating that helps water relaunch, and the bridles are low-stretch sheathed Dyneema running through a double-pulley speed system with Ronstan Orbit pulleys.
Line length changes the kite. Ozone recommends 21m lines for your first sessions, for light wind and for the bigger sizes. On 17m lines the Mach1 becomes more direct and responsive — a better match for hydrofoiling — and jumping improves because you feel more connected to the kite. In stronger wind the shorter lines also help upwind.
Who it is not for. Ozone lists the Mach1 for intermediate to expert riders, and that is honest: it is still a high-aspect foil kite with real power. If you have never flown a foil kite, the Hyperlink V4 is the gentler step across from inflatables. If you only race, the R1 V5 is the dedicated tool.
Sizes. 7m, 9m, 11m, 13m, 15m and 18m. Foil kites pull more per square metre than inflatables, so most riders who switch go smaller than their usual inflatable size. Tell us your weight, board and home spot on WhatsApp or Telegram and we will suggest the size from experience on the water in Mui Ne.
