Ozone Catalyst V5 Kite

The Catalyst V5 is a school kite, and one of those rare cases where "for beginners" doesn't mean "stripped down". A single strut, an open arc and low weight give smooth power, genuinely good light-wind ability and an easy ride up onto the board.

V5 builds on the proven V4 planform with three changes, all of them about learning. The bridle now attaches at ten points along the leading edge on every size, not just the 14 and 16 m as before: the frame and canopy hold shape more evenly, so the kite feels consistent across a wider set of conditions. Dacron reinforcement has been added to the sail panels that scuff along the ground most often — an honest acknowledgement that a learner's kite spends time on the sand. And a rounder airframe with more arc makes handling slightly quicker, so progress isn't held back by a sluggish kite.

A wide wind range and progressive depower make gusty days tolerable, and strong upwind performance means more time riding and fewer walks back along the beach. Water relaunch comes from turning the bar or pulling the relaunch balls on the leader lines, and works even in light wind. The retracting rear bridle introduced on the V4 reduces tangles and adds rear line tension when sheeted out, so the kite responds better to bar input.

Once the basics are behind you the Catalyst doesn't become dead weight: lift is smooth, feedback is clear, and first boosts come easily. This is a kite you learn on and then keep riding for a season, rather than replace after the first month.
