Description
The Reo V7 Ultra-X is the same wave machine as the standard Reo V7, built in lighter cloth. Ozone sum it up in two words: ultra-light, ultra-responsive.
What's shared. Both versions use the same panel layout. Both have the transverse sail shaping on the leading edge — a trick borrowed from Ozone's own paragliding designers, where an extra seam allows genuine three-dimensional shaping of the canopy. That gives a clean aerofoil, a tight canopy and the thing it was all for: the kite luffs later and stays predictable further toward the edge of its range. Low aspect, three struts, very fast turning — unchanged.
What differs. Materials, and only materials. The standard V7 uses heavier cloth; the Ultra-X uses lighter. Less weight means sharper response, better drift as the power drops off and longer float overhead — exactly the qualities that count most in waves.
What it costs you. Durability. Heavier cloth copes better with abrasive sand, rough launches and beach landings. If you rig on a coarse beach several times a day, the standard V7 will last longer.
A note on the small sizes. In strong wind the weight saving matters less — the kite is loaded anyway — while the durability margin matters more. Take the small sizes in the standard build and the mid and large sizes in Ultra-X.
Best suited to advanced wave riders willing to pay for every gram saved and for sharper response. For a beginner the difference won't pay for itself, and the risk of tearing lighter cloth is higher.
