The S Boss joins two different agendas. Slater has spent a career pushing performance upward; Mann has spent years on the opposite problem — making performance surfing accessible by design rather than by rider ability.
How it's done: a relaxed rocker (easier to generate speed, more forgiving on entry), a forgiving fin cluster, a full outline, and volume distributed through the board so it doesn't read as bulk. Hence the maker's claim — the most versatile shape in the Slater Designs quiver.
Two recommendations are stated outright. First: the KS1 template, ridden as a quad. Second, from Dan Mann: ride this shape on the higher side of your volume range, not the lower.
Who it isn't for. Powerful hollow waves have the DRK and FRK — those want sharper rocker. And accessible doesn't mean first-session board: this is a performance shape, just a less demanding one.
