Flysurfer SUPERSONIC Kite

The SUPERSONIC is built for one thing: long foil sessions in marginal wind. The technology comes from the Formula racing kites, but the job is different — not a lap of a course, but hours of riding and real speed where everyone else is already back on the beach.

Weight is the headline. The canopy runs from 1.74 kg on the 12 to 2.78 kg on the 22; against a SONIC of the same size Flysurfer quote a difference of up to 500 g. On a foil in light wind, those grams decide the session.

Porcher skytex 32 runs along the leading edge — it absorbs moisture and stops droplets forming, so airflow is not interrupted. In the tropics that matters literally every day. Canopy is 10D across all four sizes.

The bridle is aramid at every level including the brake line, UV-coated. Same logic as on the SOUL: the lines hold their length, so the kite needs re-trimming less often.

Tuning for the day. The Performance Tuner is a knot ladder in the C-pulley line that changes profile camber. Shorten for more low-end power and heavier steering; lengthen for the opposite. Adjust both sides symmetrically or the kite will pull off to one side.

Who it is not for — and here the maker is blunt. Flysurfer write, in as many words, that they do not recommend the SUPERSONIC to SOUL users. The ultra-light materials are more sensitive and less tolerant of uneven power spikes, such as a hard take-off. This kite needs careful handling and real foil-kite experience. If you ride a twintip and want an all-rounder, buy the SOUL — it is tougher and more versatile.

What you get in return. Phenomenal light-wind performance, up to 500 g less weight, fine-tuning options, better depower within the bar travel, and more front-line load, which means getting up on foil without a special technique. Against the racing VMG it relaunches markedly better and packs smaller for travel.
