The maker doesn't hedge: the Sweet Potato is probably the widest, flattest, thickest small wave surfboard you will ever surf. Which is exactly what you want when there's barely a wave.
What that geometry buys: no-paddle takeoffs and buttery floaters. It converts waves that would normally require a longboard — if they're rideable at all — into rippable potential, thanks to generous volume packed into a small package.
This is the updated version, refined with a swallowtail. It adds bite on rail and sharpens water release compared with the previous shape.
The Sweet Potato is one of those Mannkine shapes that changed what surfing in bad waves means for a lot of people.
Who it isn't for. In good, powerful surf a wide flat board becomes unmanageable. And you ride it markedly shorter than usual — that's the design, not a mistake.
