Ocean & Earth Razor 48 Bodyboard

A bodyboard is the shortest route from the beach to your first wave: there's nothing to stand up on, you just paddle. For children, and for adults who don't enjoy balancing, it isn't the kids' option — it's a sensible way into waves.

The 48-inch size is chosen by height and weight, and that's the only parameter that really matters. The rule of thumb: stood on end the board should reach roughly your navel. Too short and it won't carry your weight; too long and it becomes unwieldy and slow to paddle.

Fins aren't an accessory in bodyboarding, they're the engine: without them you won't reach wave speed. Budget for them from the start.

Who it isn't for. You can't stand on a bodyboard — if the goal is standing up, take a soft board. In heavy shorebreak a bodyboard demands as much experience as a surfboard. And don't size up 'to grow into': a board that doesn't fit works worse in every respect.
