Flysurfer POW2 Wing

The POW² is not a wing in the usual sense. It is a parawing: a canopy with no bladders and no rigid frame, which collapses mid-ride in a single movement and stows in the backpack on your back. From there you ride the swell downwind with both hands free. The discipline is new — parawinging — and Flysurfer are among the people currently defining it.

Single-skin canopy. No bladder, no pump, no frame. Hence the weights: 440 g on the 1.7 up to 840 g on the 5.5. A conventional wing of comparable size weighs roughly three times that. The canopy responds instantly and depowers just as instantly.

Collapse it one-handed. The bridle geometry is built so the canopy folds down through the A-lines in a controlled way, with one hand. The lines are short and colour-coded, so you know which is which when you redeploy on the water. That is not decoration — sorting out wet lines in the middle of a downwinder is a poor use of your time.

The J-handle. Compact, carbon, shaped for natural wrist alignment. On a long run that is the difference between finishing the run and finishing it with burning forearms.

What changed from the first POW. Flysurfer list it plainly: colour-coded bridle lines, shortened bridle and a compact J-handle, lower overall weight, finer size increments, a new mixer line. Every one of those changes reduces the chance of a tangle on deployment.

Rated from beginner. It is unusual for a maker to put the entry bar that low on a brand-new category of gear, and here it is justified: low-end power is strong and the canopy is stable in gusts.

Who it is not for. Anyone who wants to jump or push upwind. The POW² is built for downwind, surf and drift. For speed and upwind performance Flysurfer make the double-skin ZAP — but that one starts at advanced level.

Sizes and bridle. Five sizes: 1.7 / 2.3 / 3.0 / 4.0 / 5.5 m². Aspect ratio 2.9 throughout. Bridle length from 105 cm on the smallest to 189 cm on the 5.5. One colourway, Mellow Yellow — deliberately, because a yellow canopy is visible from the beach.
