Flysurfer ZAP Wing

The ZAP is a double-skin parawing. If the POW² opens the discipline up, the ZAP is its fast half: it holds profile under load, goes upwind efficiently and accelerates. Flysurfer say themselves it does not fit in one category — it sits somewhere between winging, kite foiling and racing.

Double-skin construction, open leading edge. Unlike the single-skin POW², the ZAP has two surfaces and an open intake at the front. The canopy inflates rapidly, and once inflated it keeps its shape under load — which is where both the speed and the stability at high depower come from.

Pack and stow mid-ride. The bridle geometry lets you collapse the wing through the A-lines in one movement and stow it on the water. From there you ride the swell downwind with nothing dragging behind you. That is the whole point: work upwind, stash the wing, surf.

Straight handle. Not the J-shape of the POW² but a straight ergonomic handle — neutral power transfer and precise steering input when the wind is variable.

Short bridle, colour-coded. The bridle is shortened and behaves consistently across all sizes, so changing size does not mean relearning the wing. The lines are colour-coded, which prevents setup mistakes in demanding conditions.

Important when sizing. The maker explicitly recommends going a size larger than you would with a single-skin setup. A double-skin canopy is more efficient but needs to be flown loaded — undersize it and you will never see what it does.

Who it is not for. Beginners. Flysurfer rate it advanced to professional, and that is not caution for its own sake. If you are new to parawinging, start with the POW², which is rated from beginner. A harness is not optional here either — long upwind runs need the load off your arms.
