Description
The name is literal: Machado took the outline from an avocado. Add fish DNA and shortboard turning, and you get what the maker calls Rob's most versatile squash tail yet.
The practical point is the dimensions: slightly wider and thicker than a standard shortboard. Those extra litres are why you paddle in earlier and catch waves you wouldn't have bothered trying for on a shortboard. In the small Californian surf Rob built it for, that's the whole game.
Worth noting on ability: the Machadocado works for experienced surfers and improvers alike. That combination is rare across the Firewire range.
Who it isn't for. Powerful hollow waves are the wrong setting — the volume and width get in the way. Absolute beginners want a soft board, not epoxy. And size it against your own shortboard, not somebody else's.
