Description
The FRK Swallow has a specific brief: waves 5' and under. The maker calls it the most versatile shape in the FRK family.
Three changes, all serving one purpose — speed where there isn't any. First, the swallow tail. Second, volume redistributed and concentrated directly between the surfer's stance rather than spread down the board. Third, Mann worked with Slater to amplify the outline through the back third and drew all-new rocker curves — separately down the centreline and along the rails.
That last point is the real trick. When the curve at the board's centre differs from the curve at the rails, the board generates speed through flat, sticky sections where a standard performance shortboard bogs down.
Who it isn't for. Powerful overhead surf wants the standard FRK or the DRK — different rocker entirely. And despite the word versatile, it isn't a beginner's board: the versatility is within the performance shortboard class.
