Takoon Wings: V3, V4 and VX — Three Generations in One Catalogue

Three generations of Takoon wings live in the catalogue at once, which is confusing: it looks like old stock nobody cleared. In fact they have different jobs and different price niches. Here they are.

Four positions by price

  • Wing V3 Pro — from 480 €. Eight sizes: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5 m². Freeride.
  • Wing V4 — from 545 €. Eight sizes from 2.5 to 6.0 m². Freeride and foiling.
  • Wing V4 Pro — from 689 €. Twelve options, with colour choice.
  • Wing VX Pro V2 — from 809 €. Seven sizes 3.0 to 6.0 m². Freeride and freestyle.

On the prices — plainly

A wing at 480 € is well below the market. Comparable freeride wings from other brands start at 719 € and more often above a thousand.

Where the difference comes from. First, the V3 is the previous generation, and this is an honest last-season price. Second, Takoon has historically sold direct and carried a smaller margin.

What that means in practice: if you are entering wingfoiling and not ready to spend a thousand to find out whether it is for you, the V3 Pro answers the question for half the money. We said the same about the Ozone Fly, and the logic is identical.

V3 against V4: what changed

The main difference shows in the size range, and it reveals the intent.

The V3 runs from 3.0 to 6.5 m². A higher top end — the wing is aimed at light wind and at riders who are still pushing water rather than flying.

The V4 runs from 2.5 to 6.0 m². The range has shifted down, which is the signature of a foil wing: on a foil large sizes are needed less often, because lift comes from the foil rather than from wing area.

The stated purpose confirms it: the V3 is simply freeride, the V4 is freeride and foiling.

The Pro suffix

The V4 and V4 Pro are 144 € apart at the smallest size. As with most brands, Pro means materials and frame stiffness.

Stiffness on a wing works like this: a soft wing deforms under load, the leading edge flexes, and part of your effort goes into the bend instead of drive. A stiff one returns everything.

When you notice it: under acceleration, in strong wind and at the top of a size's range. When you do not: in early seasons and in moderate wind.

The V4 Pro adds a small nicety — a colour choice, orange or white. A small thing right up until you lose sight of your wing on the water.

VX Pro V2: freestyle

The most expensive position in the range and the only one listing freestyle among its purposes.

What that means for a wing: efficiency matters less than how fast it dumps power and how compact it is. In freestyle a wing must release power instantly for the trick and return it just as fast. Efficiency over distance is secondary.

In practice the VX Pro V2 feels livelier and reacts more sharply, but on a long upwind run it will lose to powered freeride wings like the Ozone Flux V2.

Which one to buy

Trying wingfoiling → V3 Pro. Half the market price, eight sizes, question answered.

Committed and riding a foil → V4. A foil-oriented range and a current build.

Riding a lot and limited by wing softness → V4 Pro.

Doing tricks → VX Pro V2.

Sizing by weight and wind works as it does everywhere: the table is in our first wing guide. The key reminder: a wing has no depower, so a sizing miss cannot be cured.

What you need alongside the wing

Takoon makes all the hardware itself, which helps: a wing harness, lines, spreader bars, booms and handles in carbon and textile.

A note on booms: Takoon sells them as separate items, and on some wings a boom can replace the handles. On the difference, see our separate article.

Common questions

Should I buy a V3 when the V4 exists?

Yes, if you are starting. It is a previous generation at an honest price, not a faulty wing.

How does the V4 differ from the V4 Pro?

Materials and frame stiffness. The difference shows at speed and in strong wind.

Which size first?

For 75 to 85 kg, 5.0 m². A second size makes more sense smaller rather than larger.

Why are Takoon wings cheaper?

A previous generation in the range, plus the brand's historically smaller margin from selling direct.

Can I fit a boom instead of handles?

On some models, yes — Takoon sells booms separately. Check compatibility with your specific wing.
