Description
A bootie does two jobs, and the second often matters more. It keeps the foot warm — and it protects it from reef, rock and urchins. On a tropical reef people buy booties for the second reason, not the first.
A bootie for walking a reef entry: a firmer sole than a thin neoprene sock, so you can actually walk over sharp coral rather than tiptoe.
Who it isn't for. It won't keep you warm — cool water wants 3 mm and up. And a thin sole won't save you from a hard knock on rock. Size matters too: a loose bootie rubs worse than bare skin.
