A split toe isn't a gimmick: it lets the foot hook the deck and feel the rail. In a round-toe bootie you stand as if in a felt boot — warm, but blind.

3 mm thick. At 1.5 mm it's reef protection with minimal loss of board feel; at 3 mm it genuinely warms and works in cool water.

Who it isn't for. Not enough for cold winter water, which wants 5 mm. Size snug: a loose bootie pumps cold water through itself. And on a board with a thin pad a thick sole dulls control.
