Description
A bootie does two jobs, and the second often matters more. It keeps the foot warm — and it protects it from reef, rock and urchins. On a tropical reef people buy booties for the second reason, not the first.
A 1 mm bootie is the minimum that still makes sense. It adds almost no warmth but removes the reef-cut and fin-rub problem entirely.
Who it isn't for. It won't keep you warm — cool water wants 3 mm and up. And a thin sole won't save you from a hard knock on rock. Size matters too: a loose bootie rubs worse than bare skin.
