Flysurfer TAO2 Wing

The TAO² is Flysurfer's most versatile wing: the maker lists four disciplines for it — big air, freestyle, freeride and wave. That is not marketing breadth either, because the wing comes in two handle versions that genuinely ride differently.

Rigid Handles or BOOM. RH is two separate carbon handles with four attachment points to the centre strut: load spreads evenly, angle of attack is precise, and it packs down more conveniently for daily use and travel. BOOM is one continuous carbon bar: grab it anywhere, more freedom of hand placement, and a reshaped centre strut leaves more room around the bar. Short version — RH for big air and waves, BOOM for technical freestyle.

Advanced Tip-Flex. The tips flex in a controlled way and absorb a gust instead of delivering it into your arms. At speed and in fast manoeuvres, that is the difference between a smooth ride and a jerky one.

Canopy tension and trailing edge. Tighter canopy tension means less energy lost to unwanted flex and more predictable behaviour across the range. Reduced camber in the trailing edge directly cuts drag going upwind and riding waves.

Forward-swept outline. Lighter tips and redistributed weight: quicker acceleration and better control at the top of the wind range.

Wind ranges, in numbers. 2.5: 23-38 knots (sweet spot 25-37). 3.0: 19-35. 3.5: 16-32. 4.0: 14-29. 4.5: 13-27. 5.2: 11-24. 6.2: 9-20. 7.0: 7-17 knots, sweet spot 8-14. Weights run 1.48 kg to 2.62 kg.

Who it is not for. If you ride pure freestyle and want maximum pop out of a rigid frame, look at the AVID and its UPE Aramid Frame. The TAO² is built on a high-performance Dacron frame and wins on balance and manoeuvrability instead.

On care, since the maker is specific about it. Rinse with fresh water after salt, dry in the shade, and use no detergents — detergent on the cloth voids the warranty. Store dry and above freezing, unfolded where possible.
