CORE Kiteboarding is a German brand manufacturing in Germany — unusual in an industry that almost entirely sews in Asia. Here is what follows from that, and what we carry.

Honestly about availability

Worth knowing before reading on: Core is narrowly represented with us. Twenty positions in the catalogue, with confirmed pricing on the XR8 kite and part of the hardware.

The surfboards — 720 IV, Badger II, Badger Pro, Ripper 6 — are listed, but their pricing is confirmed to order. That is more honest than showing everything as in stock, and we hold to that rule across all brands.

Made in Germany: what it changes

A fact the brand leads with, and not a decorative one.

One: quality control. A batch is inspected where it is sewn rather than arriving by container across an ocean.

Two: price. German manufacturing costs more than Asian, and it shows: the XR8 starts at 1 879 € for a 5 m — above the North Orbit at 1 729 € and well above the F-One Bandit TEC at 1 075 €.

Three, less obvious: iteration speed. Having production nearby shortens the path from prototype to batch. Hence the narrow range: the brand refines a few models rather than releasing ten.

A narrow range is a strategy, not poverty

Compare the approaches we have covered in recent weeks.

North: 341 positions, four kites, four seasons of each in the catalogue.

Naish: 124 positions, seven kites, five construction versions of the Pivot.

Takoon: 127 positions, nine foil masts, a construction kit of parts.

Core: twenty positions.

Different philosophies, and the narrow one has its advantages. When a brand builds one flagship kite, all development resource goes into it. No need to separate characters across models or keep eight lines in production.

The drawback is equally clear: if the XR is not your character, Core has no alternative for you. At North you move from Orbit to Reach, at Naish from Pivot to Boxer — here there is nowhere to move.

The XR8: eleven sizes from 5 to 17 metres

The brand's core position, and the size range reveals its job.

Eleven sizes: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.5, 15, 17 m². Prices from 1 879 € to 2 853 €.

Five to seventeen metres is storm and calm in one model. The same approach as the Naish Boxer with its 2.8 to 16 m range.

The logic follows from the narrow range: if there is only one model, it has to cover everything. The brand has nowhere to move the extremes.

Note the unusual 13.5 m — a fractional size between 13 and 14. Such numbers usually mean the range was chosen around power curves rather than price-list convenience. We noted the same on the North Orbit Ultra with its 5.9 / 6.6 / 7.3 / 8.1 ladder.

Surfboards: Badger, 720, Ripper

Core's directional branch is compact but coherent.

Badger II and Badger Pro — two tiers of one model.

720 IV — a fourth generation, so the model has been around.

Ripper 6 — a sixth generation.

Fourth and sixth generations inside a narrow range are a good sign. They mean the brand refines models over years rather than renaming them each season.
