Four kites, four characters

Cabrinha's range in our catalogue is compact and free of overlap.

Why the Switchblade has lasted twenty years

A more interesting question than it looks, and the answer explains the brand's whole approach.

Normal market logic says every season a kite must get lighter, faster and more aggressive. The Switchblade instead evolved in one direction: predictability.

What that means in practice. Strong steady lift instead of explosive lift. Enormous hangtime instead of a sharp takeoff. Handling that springs no surprises at the top of the wind range.

That makes the Switchblade a kite you can grow on. It does not punish a beginner and does not become a brake for an experienced rider, and that combination is rare — usually you have to choose.

The Apex version is the brand's current construction, with its proprietary technology aimed at maximum performance.

Moto X: the cheapest all-rounder here

The most interesting position on price. A 5 m Moto X costs 860 € — half what comparable kites cost at other brands.

The manufacturer presents it as a one-kite quiver: freeride, waves, jumps. Its stated qualities are low weight, manoeuvrability and good drift.

Drift in an all-rounder is unusual. Normally only wave models have it, because it is paid for in lift. The Moto X is an attempt to have both, and its stated disciplines are honestly freeride and waves.

The 5, 6, 8, 10 m² range sits low — a sign the kite is aimed at brisk wind and a directional board rather than at light air.

Drifter: two sizes, and that is all

A model that appears in our catalogue only as a 7 and a 9. That is not a truncated range — it is a precise hit on the band where a wave kite is actually needed.

We worked through the logic in the North Carve review: on a wave the swell accelerates you, not the kite, so you size down against freeride in the same wind. And wave spots are rarely light.

Seven and nine metres cover almost the entire real wave range. Anything larger is freeride, and the range has the Moto X for that.

Nitro: aggression stated honestly

The manufacturer does not soften the wording: explosive lift, long hangtime, an aggressive character, for advanced riders.

That is unusual honesty. Most brands write "suitable from intermediate" even where a kite obviously is not.

The Nitro and Switchblade Apex cost the same — 1 753 € for an 8 m. Choosing between them is not about money but about whether you are ready for a kite that does not forgive.

Bars: four models and the logic of the names
