Description
The Plank is built for one job: getting students from body dragging to their first rides. Ozone designed it for schools, because the biggest struggle after body drag is the water start and learning to edge — and that is exactly what this board makes easier.
Early planing. A large surface area, square outline and moderate-to-low rocker get the board planing early and make it behave predictably. A single concave bottom keeps the ride smooth in a wide range of conditions.
Learning to edge. The footstrap inserts are off-centre, which makes edging more comfortable, and the fins on the heel-side edge add tracking grip so the board doesn't slip out while the student is learning basic edge control.
Built for lessons. A wind window diagram printed on the deck gives the instructor something to point at and reminds students of the basics throughout the course. The V2 footpads and Ultralon straps adjust quickly with Velcro, which saves time when the board changes hands between students, and fit bare feet or booties. The handle is sturdy with a textured grip. Construction is an A-grade Paulownia core with bio-based epoxy and 316 stainless steel inserts.
Who it is not for. Once a student can ride upwind and link turns, the Plank's size and square outline start to hold them back; that is the moment to move to a progression board such as the Element. It is not designed for jumping or powered riding.
