A rash shirt covers two problems at once: sun and friction. The second is usually underestimated — a few hours on a board takes the skin off your chest and ribs, and the next session gets cancelled for reasons other than the forecast.

This is the cap sleeve. Long sleeves cover the forearms, which are under the sun the whole time and reached last by sunscreen; a short sleeve is easier in real heat.

The fabric stretches both ways and dries almost instantly: you come out soaked and you're dry twenty minutes later.

Who it isn't for. It adds no warmth at all — cool water wants a fleece thermo or a neoprene vest. A compression fit sits better under a wetsuit than a relaxed one. And the sun protection only works while the fabric is intact: a stretched, worn rash shirt lets more through.
