Description
Fins are the engine in bodyboarding. Without them you physically can't reach wave speed, and the session becomes waiting to be picked up by whitewater.
Bodyboard fins are short and stiff, unlike long diving fins: a short blade gives a sharp, powerful kick off the mark, while a long one is built for economical cruising and simply gets in the way in the shorebreak.
Size is critical: a loose fin comes off in the first wave, a tight one strips the skin off your instep in a single session. A thin neoprene sock underneath is standard.
Who it isn't for. Inefficient for diving and snorkelling, which want a long blade. Pointless for stand-up surfing. And buy retaining straps at the same time: a lost fin is gone instantly.
