Description
The OE3 is the stiffest set in the line. Stiffness buys two things: drive and hold. The fin doesn't give under load, so the energy you put in goes into the board rather than into bending plastic, and the tail doesn't let go in a big turn.
The downside is the same trait. A stiff fin has to be loaded to work: it wants weight, speed and strong footwork. A lighter surfer will find the board tight and unresponsive.
The maker points it at power surfers and big waves — conditions where losing hold costs more than losing manoeuvrability.
Single tab, so these fit Futures boxes. If you run FCS, you need the dual-tab version.
Who it isn't for. Light and beginner surfers, who want the OE1 Whip or OE2 Control. In small, weak surf a stiff fin won't get the board going; there you want give. And they won't fit FCS boxes.
