Description
The INDIE is a one-strut kite for riders who are starting out and who travel. One strut instead of three or five means less weight and noticeably less packed volume — the kite fits in ordinary luggage rather than claiming a bag of its own.
It is rated beginner to intermediate, and all four sizes are large: 9, 11, 13 and 15. That is not an accident. This kite is built for light wind, where area is the advantage that matters.
Why it holds on when the wind drops. A deep profile and low aspect ratio — 3.6 on the 9, 4.2 on the 15. For comparison, the big-air SONIC runs 6.4 to 6.9. Low aspect means stall resistance: the kite does not fall out of the sky when a lull comes through, which is exactly what a learner and a foiler both need.
The second generation reworked the bridle geometry: more light-wind stability and clearer bar feedback, while the relaunch stayed as it was — and one-strut kites are already good at that. Centre profiles were refined so the kite flies further to the edge of the window.
Tuning the steering. As on the HELI, a knot ladder on the back lines: change the length, change bar pressure and steering response.
Who it is not for. Anyone who wants to jump high — one strut and a low aspect ratio work against that. Flysurfer separate the models plainly: INDIE for learning and travel, STOKE for freeride and waves, ERA for big air.
