A groveller is a board for bad waves: small, gutless, wall-less. Usually you pay for speed in such conditions with vertical performance — the board goes but won't turn. The Mashup is built not to pay.

They took half from each of two well-known shapes. From Rob Machado's Seaside, the ability to generate speed where there's almost no energy. From Dan Mann's Spitfire, vertical drive in good waves. Each shaper picked what mattered most from his own design, and the maker claims the result concedes nothing to either parent on its home ground.

Hence the line about the board you'll never want to take out of your trunk: it stops being the spare.

Helium Core. A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails by Paulownia and Balsa. Light and lively underfoot, good at generating speed in everyday waves.

Who it isn't for. Powerful barrels want a shortboard. And grovellers are sized above your usual volume — otherwise the whole point is lost.
