Description

CrazyFly call the Nuke the new king of the air, and the range is built for nuking conditions, new-school big air and height chasing. It is the fastest kite the brand has made, with kite loop recovery to match.

The shape is a hybrid of delta and C. The centre section is wide, deep and open-arced — that is what generates power, hangtime and lift. The wingtips are closed off and almost straight, squared like a C kite, which gives fast response and pivotal turning for loops, double loops and S-loops. The leading edge uses a two-step arc: the curved centre works for height, the straight tips for turning speed.

Three struts rather than five: the outline is compact enough to hold canopy tension, and the weight saving matters. TerTex sits on the side struts, the wingtips and over the central strut — twice as strong as CrazyFly's Triplex and forty percent lighter than the Dacron it replaces. A lighter kite starts earlier and recovers from a loop faster.

Two bridle modes. This is the Nuke's defining feature. From the factory it ships in Allround mode, with the bridle line on the longer 20 cm pigtail. Turning is smoother, depower is easier, hangtime is better and megaloops are smooth; the mode forgives more and suits lighter wind, old school, freeride and waves. Move that line to the 10 cm pigtail and you are in Nuking mode: more stability in strong wind, great pop, lighter bar pressure and precise slack control. Both modes loop well — it comes down to preference.

Who it is not for. The Nuke is not a first kite and not an all-rounder. It will feel sharp to a beginner, and if you want one canopy for everything the Sculp is the better answer. You buy a Nuke when height and loops matter more than comfort.

Picking a size. Seven sizes: 6m from 20 knots, 7m 18-43, 8m 16-40, 9m 15-35, 10m 14-30, 11m 13-28, 12m 12-26. A 75-85 kg rider in Mui Ne is usually covered by a 9m and an 11m. Ronstan swim-proof pulleys carry a line through the body, so even if the plastic fails the kite stays on the lines and keeps flying.
