GONG SUP from 99 Euros: What Sits Behind That Price

A sixfold gap against the nearest competitor. Honestly: where the saving is real and where you get exactly what you paid for.

The range and prices

  • Pack SUP Inflatable Chip 8'0 — 99 €. A kids' board.
  • Pack SUP First Allround — 199 €. 10'0 and 11'0.
  • Pack SUP First Cruising — 299 €. 11'6 and 12'6.
  • I-SUP Hybrid, Longboard, Shortboard — 399 €.
  • I-SUP Allround — 449 €. 9'6, 10'6, 11'6.
  • I-SUP Cruising — 459 €.
  • I-SUP Race — 519 €. From 12'6 x 26 to 14'0 x 28.
  • I-SUP Family — 519 €. 12'0 and 13'5.
  • I-SUP Adventure — 599 €.
  • I-SUP Race Flat Water 18' — 769 €.

Two branches: Pack First and I-SUP

The key to the range is that it splits in two.

Pack First — 99 € to 299 €. "Pack" means a complete kit: board, paddle, pump, leash, bag.

I-SUP — 399 € to 769 €. The main range, split by job.

The practical conclusion: First is "try it and find out whether it is for you". I-SUP is for when you already know what you will do.

Where a 199-euro price comes from

Honestly, because the question is fair.

One: direct sales. We covered the mechanics in our distribution article. Two margins — distributor and retailer — are a substantial share of retail.

Two: entry-level construction. Inflatable boards differ in the number of material layers and how top and bottom are joined. A cheap construction is easier to build and holds pressure less well.

Three: what is in the box. A paddle included at 199 € is an entry-level paddle. For comparison, a standalone carbon paddle starts at 199 € — the price of the entire package.

What that means: you get a working kit rather than a swindle. But every part of it is basic.

What to expect and what not to

Expect:

  • The board inflates and holds you on the water.
  • On calm water you will paddle along.
  • The kit is enough to learn whether you like SUP.

Do not expect:

  • The stiffness of an expensive board. The difference shows over distance and above 90 kg.
  • A light paddle. After an hour your arm will say so.
  • Fast inflation. The included pump is basic.
  • Speed. For distance, take the I-SUP Cruising or Race.

Who 199 euros is right for

Anyone unsure they will stick with it. The most honest argument: at 199 € the cost of being wrong equals a day's rental in a tourist town.

A holiday house, a village, a calm lake. An expensive board would not reveal itself there.

A second board for guests. A classic case: you have a good board and friends arrive without one.

Children. The Chip 8'0 at 99 € — a child outgrows it in two seasons and paying more makes no sense.

Who should pay more

If you weigh over 90 kg. Construction stiffness becomes decisive: an insufficiently stiff board folds in the middle under a heavy rider.

If you plan distance. The I-SUP Cruising or Race.

If you paddle regularly. A basic construction wears out sooner.

If you travel with the board constantly. The bag in a cheap package is thin.

What to upgrade first

A strategy that works better than buying an expensive board outright.

First, the paddle. Upgrading the paddle delivers more than upgrading the board: an hour of paddling is around two thousand strokes, and paddle weight multiplies by that number. In detail: our paddle guide.

Second, the pump. A double-action pump halves the strokes needed.

Third, a vest if you paddle open water.

Simple logic: a cheap board with a good paddle paddles better than an expensive board with a bad one.

On pressure — repeated, because it is the main thing

An under-inflated board behaves like a bad board. On a budget construction that matters more than on an expensive one: there is less stiffness in reserve, so any pressure loss immediately takes the board outside its working range.

Inflate to the stated maximum and check with a gauge rather than by hand.

The mechanics are in our inflatable versus hard comparison.

Common questions

Is a 99-euro SUP a real board?

Yes, but it is a kids' 8-foot board in an entry-level package. Adult boards start at 199 €.

What is in the Pack?

Board, paddle, pump, leash and bag. Every part is entry-level.

Who should avoid a budget board?

Anyone over 90 kg, paddling distance, or riding regularly: stiffness and durability will fall short.

What should I upgrade first?

The paddle. An hour of paddling is around two thousand strokes, so its weight matters more than the board's.

How does First differ from I-SUP?

First is a "try it" package at 99 to 299 €. I-SUP is the main range split by job, from 399 €.

Where to buy

Pack SUP First Allround 199 €, Chip 8'0 99 €. The section: inflatable SUP.
