North Atmos 2026 Review: The Middle of the Range Where Most People Live

Every board range has the model most people stop at. At North that is the Atmos: stiff enough to jump, soft enough to ride for three hours.

The short version

Width grows with length — and rightly so

Look at the range: 136×40, 138×41, 141×42, 144×43. Each size is a centimetre wider than the last.

Not everyone does this, and it matters. If you only add length, the board becomes long and narrow — it turns worse and planes later than it would at the same area.

Proportional width growth means all four sizes behave identically, differing only in area. You choose by weight and wind without changing the board's character.

Its place in the range: between Prime and Pro

The Atmos is easiest to understand through its neighbours.

Below: the Prime at 619 €. Softer, 180 € cheaper, and runs to 152 cm. A board for learning and for light wind.

Above: the Atmos Pro at 1 159 € and the Atmos Ultra at 1 599 €. Carbon, stiffer, lighter.

The Atmos sits in the middle, and that is a target rather than a compromise. The 180 € over a Prime buys the stiffness you want once you start jumping. The 360 € over an Atmos buys carbon, which shows in rotations.

One price across four sizes

A detail people rarely notice, and it works for the buyer: size gets chosen by weight and wind rather than by budget.

When sizes are priced differently, people are tempted by the cheaper one — and end up on the wrong board. A single price removes the temptation.

Which size to buy

• 136×40 — under 75 kg or a windy spot.
• 138×41 — 75 to 85 kg, the most universal.
• 141×42 — 85 to 95 kg or moderate-to-light wind.
• 144×43 — over 95 kg or regularly light wind.

When in doubt: go larger. Too little area is cured only by wind; too much is cured by technique.

Who it suits

Riders one or two seasons in. The main scenario: you go upwind and have started jumping.

Anyone wanting one board for everything. Freeride, first jumps, travel.

Anyone riding regularly. The gap against a soft board accumulates with hours.

Who it does not suit

Anyone learning. Take the Prime: softer and 180 € cheaper.

Anyone spinning. The Atmos Pro or Ultra is noticeably lighter.

Light-wind riders. 144 cm is not light wind. You want a Prime 148 or 152.

What to buy with it

The board ships with bindings and pads. Two things are worth adding, and we repeat this in every board review for a reason.

A bag. A twintip breaks in luggage more often than on the water.

Spare fins and screws. A trivial item that saves a session.

The Atmos 2026 costs 799 €, the undated version 584 €, and the Atmos Pro 2025 734 €.

Note that last figure: last season's Atmos Pro costs less than this season's standard Atmos. If you want carbon, that is the best price on it anywhere in the range.

Which Atmos size at 80 kg?

138×41 cm for average wind, 141×42 if your spot is often light.

How does the Atmos differ from the Prime?

Stiffness and price. The Prime is softer, cheaper and reaches 152 cm; the Atmos is more precise and jumps better.

Is the Atmos Pro worth the extra?

If you spin, yes — carbon is lighter. For ordinary freeride the difference barely registers.

Does it come with bindings?

Yes, bindings and pads. People usually add a bag and spare fins.

Why do all sizes cost the same?

So that size is chosen by weight and wind rather than price. It reduces the chance of buying the wrong board.
