More boards get broken travelling on a car than in the water. Two causes: the board isn't cinched down and slides on the roof, and it sits on bare metal. Pads and straps deal with both.

The pad lies over a pickup tailgate and turns it into a padded support: boards go nose-in, tails out, strapped down to the gate. It's the fastest load there is — no bars, no lifting onto a roof.

Who it isn't for. Pickups with a drop tailgate only. Tails overhang, which in some countries requires a marker flag. And on a long drive the boards are exposed to sun and dust.
