The rail of a SUP takes a beating from the paddle. Every stroke that misses is a blade edge into the side, and over a season it adds up to a line of chips along the rail. Clear tape takes those hits instead.
It makes most sense on rental boards and for beginners — the ones whose paddle finds the rail most often.
Who it isn't for. It won't save you from rocks: it's built for abrasion, not impact. Apply to a clean dry surface — it won't hold on wax or a damp rail.
