The plate the screw threads into: it spreads the load inside the box. Without it the screw digs into the plastic and the box stops holding.
Parts like this cost almost nothing and take the whole board out of action. Keep spares in the board bag rather than at home: you always discover the loss on the beach.
Who it isn't for. Box compatibility is not optional — thread and length differ between systems. And don't overtighten: the thread in the box is softer than the screw and strips more easily than you'd think.
