Ocean & Earth APEX Fish/Short Travel Cover Wheel - 3 Board Bag

APEX is Ocean & Earth's top travel cover line, and what separates it from a padded sock is that the protection is structural. The XPS outer shell holds its own shape, so it takes the hit before the hit reaches the board. The construction is listed as patent applied — this is not a rebadged standard bag.

The 3-board version is cut wider and adds the second layer, IPS: cushioning sits inside, between the boards, because in a multi-board cover the damage comes from boards hitting each other rather than hitting the ground. XPS works on the outside, IPS works on the stack.

A contoured rail gusset widens the cover where the boards are thickest, and external compression straps take out the slack — an untied stack slides around in transit and dents itself. The shoulder strap has an anti-shock insert. It also gets a wheel system — a four or five board cover weighs enough that carrying it on a shoulder becomes its own event. The aircon vent system lets hot air out: a dark cover in the sun becomes an oven, and heat is a direct route to delaminated deck.

Who it isn't for. Single-board travellers: a multi-board cover rides half empty, and empty space works against the board. Anyone counting baggage allowance — a multi-board APEX is heavy before you put anything in it. And for regular short drives it's money spent on protection you don't need; a day bag covers that.
