A bicep leash is the standard for competitive prone riding. Mounting above the elbow keeps it out of the stroke: a wrist cuff catches water on every pull and breaks your rhythm, while a bicep cuff simply isn't involved. A 9 mm cord is the working thickness — thinner snaps in heavy surf, thicker drags and slows you. After a wipeout the board stays tethered. In shorebreak that's a safety question rather than a convenience one: a loose board goes straight for the beach and whoever is standing on it.
