Flysurfer TRIP3 Kiteboard

The TRIP³ is a splitboard, and the point of it is entirely practical: the board separates into two halves of 850-870 mm and fits in an ordinary suitcase. The arithmetic follows — airlines charge separately and substantially for sports baggage, while a split board travels as normal luggage. One trip to Mui Ne and back and the difference is already real.

How the joint works. A three-piece design: two halves plus an S-shaped polyurethane connecting element that spreads load evenly across both halves. Two through-going locking pins hold it. Assembly is toolless — on the beach, in a minute.

The PU element is replaceable. That detail matters: the most heavily loaded part of the construction can be swapped rather than condemning the board.

Torsional stiffness. A split board risks flexing at the joint, so this one uses the reinforced Split-Connection 2.0 and a multilayer fibreglass structure specifically to resist torsion. The paulownia core is CNC-milled: light and load-bearing.

The shape. A refined toe-side edge gives control in turns and through chop; stepped channel tips and a consistent rocker curve handle pop and carving feel.

Honest about the trade. Flysurfer compare the TRIP to the RADICAL⁸ themselves and concede it is neither as playful nor as agile. In exchange you get compactness, durability and stable, grounded feedback. Weight too: 3.34 and 3.48 kg, noticeably more than a one-piece board. If you never fly with your board, a one-piece will be nicer to ride.
