A rack solves the mundane problem you only notice once: a board leaning on a wall falls over, scuffs on the skirting and dents its tail under its own weight. On a rack it rests on padded supports and never touches the floor.

A ceiling hoist puts the board overhead and frees both floor and walls. In a garage it's the only way to store a longboard or SUP without surrendering an entire wall.

The board goes up on a rope through pulleys, so even a heavy board doesn't weigh much in your hands.

Who it isn't for. The fixings go into ceiling joists — never into a suspended or hollow ceiling. And access gets slower: lowering a board takes longer than lifting it off a wall, which makes it awkward for daily surfing.
