Description

A step deck is thicker under the chest and thinner through the tail. That distribution puts volume where your weight sits and keeps it away from where the board needs to work. Two things follow from the extra float. You catch waves earlier because paddling is more efficient, and the board doesn't sink under your knee when you come up into dropknee. The thin tail keeps the board responsive rather than turning it into a raft. PP Pro core, Sci-Five channels for speed and hold, and the Hubb Tail for a looser release. A crescent-tail version of the same board is listed separately and is the more stable choice for prone. Worth considering if you're over 85 kg, ride dropknee, or find you're missing waves for want of lift.
